How To Start Your Own Blog Submission Service
Have you subscribed to my RSS feed yet?. Thanks for visiting!
In a previous post, I talked about submitting my blog to blog and RSS feed directories. You may remember that I used a piece of software called RSS Submit, to help me automate and speed up, what I considered a boring and time consuming process.
Do you see the opportunity for making money here?
When you see new software programs coming onto the market, which are designed to help solve a problem, save time, improve productivity etc., they often create new ’spin off markets’ all by themselves.
The ’shelf life’ of these spin off markets is usually uncertain, but there’s definitely a few bucks to be made. You just have to look at things from a different angle.
New software programs are being launched every day on the Internet. I’m going to be shining the light onto a lot of different ’spin off’ business opportunities from software. For today, we’ll look at one that RSS Submit has opened up…
The Popularity Of Blogs Will Create A
Demand For Many ‘Spin Off’ Products
A demand was created when Bloggers wanted an easier way of submitting their Blogs to directories. RSS Submit is an extremely simple and straight forward software program, but it won’t suit every Blogger’s needs.
Just like when submitting websites to search engines was all the rage, there is going to be a market for Blog and RSS feed submission services.
Instead of buying a software program, and learning how to use it, the better alternative for many Bloggers would be to just give you their link, and let you submit their blog to directories on their behalf, hassle free.
With software like RSS Submit, you could offer your own Blog and RSS submission service.
I can see this being a bit of a cut throat market with lots of competition, but at the moment, there are no main players that I can see. So it might be a good time to get in and make your mark.
With RSS Submit, you can dip your toe in the market, without having to spend much time or money. This is all you will need to give this a try:
- A simple, one page sales letter type website offering your service.
- List the sites you will submit their Blog and RSS feeds to.
- A method of accepting credit card payment.
- A basic form that they will need to fill in and submit to you once, with details of their Blog title, address, feed URL etc. You could use the form in RSS Submit ‘as a guide’ on what information to ask for.
- You may decide to send a follow e-mail or report to each customer, detailing and confirming the directories you have submitted to. This extra service, will increase customer satisfaction and should help you to get more referrals and repeat business.
That’s all you need to do really. Not forgetting any related follow up services/products you could could offer your customers after the initial first sale.
Most orders are likely to be one-offs, but you should also get a number of repeat orders as well, from people with more than one Blog/RSS feed to promote. I would definitely recommend offering a discount for bulk or repeat orders to help increase your profit per customer.
How To Get Customers For Your
New Blog Submission Service…
Getting customers is a massive topic on it’s own. However, I would start by using pay-per-click advertising, and publishing a couple of articles on the merits of submitting your blog to directories. This should help you get in some traffic to test the market.
Before you go all out on promotion, just see how things go on a smaller scale. If you start to get a bit of business, and your customers are happy with your service, you can start to re-invest your profits and crank up your marketing. Starting an affiliate program would obviously be a good route to go down.
If Things Start To Take Off
Using the RSS Submit software for this type of business, is really just a starting point. If you make a bit of money initially, you should seriously consider getting your own Blog/RSS submission software created, using a service like Elance.
You would then have more control over the directories you could submit to. As you could add sites to your own submission database, as more and more directories become available. This would make your service unique, and a more comprehensive alternative to using the RSS Submit software.
As I implied earlier, the shelf life of this opportunity is hard to predict. For the moment though, it looks like a hot market, with the popularity of Blogs and RSS feeds exploding right now.
I have seen RSS/Blog feed submission services ranging between $9 to $180 per feed, so you will need to do some price testing to see what the market is willing to pay.

Hi Jason,
Don't know how I skipped this entry when I read that Traffic Secrets report...
The matter is, I did open RSS/Blog Submission Service, almost a year ago, it was then even featured by John Reese at the Big Seminar.
The matter with software is that it's hard to constantly update it -- for its developers, I mean. We submit to 120+ directories (actually I think more that 140+) and constantly update the list (now added Denise's, too :)).
But it probably is not the ultimate advantage. The matter is that we also consult our customers, what they should do with their (particular) blogs BEFORE the submission, during and after it to maximize the effect of the blog/feed submission. Software will forever miss that personal touch :))
If interested, take a look at

Garu Bencivenga told me, the copy looks beautiful :))
Best,
Olga.

Hi Olga,
I did see your service when I did my research for this post. You made a good case why a submission service would be more useful than stand alone software.
RSS and Blogs are evolving very fast, which is why a service like yours that is kept regulalry up to date, can be very useful. As you say, the additional consulting you offer is what gives the value to your service.
For those of you reading Olga's comments, who don't know who Gary Bencivenga is; he's a top copywriter, and worth listening to. Check out his site here:
