Internet Marketing Blog Directory

Have you subscribed to my RSS feed yet?. Thanks for visiting!
I recently came across a very useful new directory which lists Internet Marketing blogs, and I think you should take a look.
IMBlogs.net is run by ’smart cookie’ Michelle Stahl, who has set up a ‘dedicated’ directory just for blogs about Internet marketing.
Directories of websites and resources, have been one of the most successful Internet business models, since the Internet began. It’s no surprise that when blogs started to grow rapidly in popularity, it wasn’t long before people started to throw up directories of blogs as well.
What Michelle has done is focus on one tight niche market, and build a blog directory ‘just’ for people interested in this ’specific’ information.

If you are going to set up a directory of any kind, whether it lists: articles, blogs or whatever, I firmly believe that you have a much bigger chance of making a success of it, if you narrow your focus by concentrating on one particular market.
Michelle has done exactly the right thing, by not trying to provide a blog directory which is ‘all things to all people‘.
Incidently, IMBlogs.net doesn’t currently have a Google PageRank, because it’s still very new. But I’ve just checked out it’s provisional rating, using this free Google PageRank Tool, and it’s already up to a ‘6′. This just shows you the potential of this type of tightly focused blog directory.
Now, you’ve seen it being done for Internet marketing blogs, how about a blog directory that just lists blogs about: golf, gardening tips, DIY, cooking recipes, computer games, self improvement or whatever.
You could go and pick a popular market, and start creating lists of the great blogs you can find in that market, and encourage people to submit there blogs to your directory. You could soon become ‘THE’ directory to visit, for anyone who wants to find blogs on your chosen niche.
I hope you see the potential here, because this is still very much a ground floor opportunity. A popular directory like this will give you opportunities to make money from advertising, AdSense, affiliate products and help you build a big list of prospects interested in the same niche market.
I hope you found this useful,
UPDATE: Since I first wrote about this site, IMBlogs.net seems to have gone offline. I’m not sure why things didn’t work out for Michelle, because I wasn’t able to get a reply from her. I still think the concept of the site was a good one. I don’t know for sure, but it might be that Michelle wasn’t able to monetize the site enough, to cover the bandwidth costs.
I decided to keep this post up on my blog for your reference. Maybe someone else will be able to take the concept and be more successful with it.

P.S. Keep Your Eyes Open!
Technorati currently has some 22.9 million blogs already listed in it’s directory, and thousands of new blogs are being started every single day.
There’s one thing all these blog publishers have in common….
They ‘ALL’ desperately want one particular thing, and they are finding it very hard to come by!
Look out for an e-mail from me later in the week. I’ll be telling you what they are so deperate for, and how you can capitalize on this huge demand, by showing them exactly how to to get what they want.
If you would like to profit from the massive blog explosion that is going on right now, don’t miss my next e-mail on Thursady/Friday of this week.

What a great idea Jason. Does that company also sell the script for a blog directory so that it will look just like there's but we can use it for different niches? That would really be a time saver.
Thanks for all of your articles. You have one of the best information sites around!

[...] I received a lot of similar questions following yesterday’s article about setting up blog directories for niche markets. So, I thought it would be a good idea to post a follow up here, to iron out a few concerns people were having. [...]

Scott,
Thanks for the complimentabout my articles! :-)
I agree that a blog directory script would be a good idea, but I don't know whether the script Michelle uses for IMBlogs.net is for sale. It looks like her own bespoke script to me, but I could be wrong. You could always ask her, and see what she says ;-)

This post highlights the problems with over
subscribed blogs with so many different
categories to choose from.
I don't know how many people would be
motivated enough to set up a tightly
focused blog directory.
Nonetheless I have submitted my blog for
inclusion to IMBlogs because of your post
and written about the site today.

Thanks for the info Jason.

Hi Nancy,
I agree that setting up a niche blog directory is not everyone's 'cup of tea'. But that does leave the door open for those that do it, and make a good job of it.
There are a number of benefits with creating a tightly focused directory of any kind, be it for blogs, articles or any other kind of resource.
The search engines are giving more and more weight to the quality of links coming into a website. A blog directory that focuses on just one particular niche, not 'every topic under the sun', could easily become an 'authority site' in that niche.
For example, if you created a useful, well organized directory of blogs, just about fishing, this may well catch the eye, and be mentioned in offline fishing magazines, fishing enthusiast forums, newsletters, and fishing blogs.
I think they would be more likely to give publicity, and recommend a directory that is clearly a dedicated resource for their niche market, rather than refer people to a category section on Blogger or similar general directory.
Advertisers also expect to pay a premium for advertising on specialist websites and magazines, because the response rates are normally higher. So the opportunities for profiting from the traffic to this type of directory are probably very good. Obviously, this will depend on the niche market being targeted, as with any product/website.
