A software product idea…

For those that don’t already know, this blog was created using Wordpress, which is probably the most popular blog software out there.

Now, there are tons of free Wordpress templates all over the web, so that you can choose whatever design you like.  The only problem is, people want their blogs to be different, and not exactly the same as those belonging to thousands of other bloggers using the exact same template.

It seems to me that there’s a big demand here waiting to be filled. 

What’s needed is a ‘Wordpress template generator’.

With each Wordpress template (as far as my knowledge takes me), there are five main files that would need to be customized:

header.php
index.php
footer.php
sidebar.php
styles.css

Imagine a piece of software with five tabs.  On each tab you can go in a choose from a menu, and change the various design options to make each file unique to you.  Ideally, it would have a preview option which you could check as you go along.

Then at the end you click the finished button, and it saves the now customized versions of the above five files to a location you choose. You upload them to your server, and your done.

Wouldn’t that be a really useful piece of software for Wordpress blog users?

It would need to have plenty of design options, and the ability to choose your own color scheme, 2 or 3 column layout etc., so that people don’t all end up desinging the exact same template.  You should also be able to import your own images for additional customization.

If someone already knows of a software program that does this, please let me know.  If there isn’t one available yet, I’m sure there will be in the near future.  Will you be the one to develop it?

Yesterday’s post about creating movie slide shows was very popular, with many people interested in making money from doing this.  As well as creating videos for their own personal use and for marketing purposes.

After talking about Microsoft’s Photo Story software, I was told about a much more powerful tool called Muvee (thanks to Keith Baxter).

Now although this one isn’t free, there is a 15 day free trial for you to download it, and give it a good test drive.  I’ve already had a play with it, and it takes the video production options on to a whole new level.

In addition to using still photographs, you can use video files, or combine them both, as well as import directly from your video camera. What I particularly liked where the many different style options, which enabled you to create some very cool effects, with various different color overlays and auto fading of the images.

These styles also allow you to synchronize the way the images are displayed, in tune with the music you’re using as the soundtrack.  Nothing difficult to work out, as it’s all done automatically for you depending on the production style you choose. 

After playing around with the styles for just a few minutes, I was able create a very stylish video that wouldn’t look out of place on MTV.

There’s also some inexpensive upgrade options for adding additional style options if you want them.  You get about 25 styles included though, and that is more than enough to get you started.

The title/credit option is also very useful. This allows you to very easily add info about you as the video creator, and your website address, particularly at the end of the video, as it gives you a way of getting people to your website after they’ve enjoyed watching the video.

If you’ve already used Microsoft’s Photo Story, and want to move up to something with that extra power, for a more proffesional finish, I think the Muvee software is a great option.

I’d like to tell you about a very cool piece of free software, which you can use to make professional looking movie slide shows, complete with customized soundtracks.

After downloading the software I was able to create a fantastic looking and sounding movie slide show of my kids, in about ten minutes.  This included adding a few funny voiceovers for each picture.

My wife and kids absolutely loved it, and couldn’t believe I’d only downloaded the software ten minutes earlier.  I’ve just burned it on to a CD, and it’ll make a great keepsake.  I’ll also give it to the grandparents as a nice gift.

Now…all this from a free software program, that I’d been using for just ten minutes.  With your imagination, I’m sure you could come up with a ton of ideas to make videos from images and pictures you already have or could obtain.
